Microblog Monday: Art Nouveau and Robots

Whilst covering reception last week, & during slow moments (which are few & far between now) I started working some ideas out. I’m quite interested in developing my style using the art nouveau influence, & I want to include, of course, robots.

To help get a feel for this style I had done a lot of research on Mucha (who basically created the style, so really we could call it Mucha’s Style) & studied images online from his posters & other art. I determined that while I liked the feeling his works embodied, for mine own art I needed to add my own special bit of flair to it. 😉

What I picture in my head is art nouveau meets futuristic androids with a teensy dash of steampunk machinery.

Thus, I set to work sketching out a frame concept (I thought I had taken photos of the pencil sketching, but it appears I did not…) and started adding a rough of an android figure of sorts. I was going for robot at first, but then decided robot-but-human-looking was what I wanted so I changed to android. And lemme tell you…trying to get my German expressionist style to conform well within art nouveau is…very challenging, to say the least. 😐 I’m working on it. Here’s what I have thus far:

As you can see, I started a rough placement for my droid & started the first of the lettering within the frame. After I work out placement, I’ll ink it all, then plot out colour. At that point, I’ll begin work on the painting of this piece.

Since I can only work on this in my spare time, I don’t presume I’ll have this finished anytime soon, but who knows? 😉 What do you guys think of it so far?

Cheers!!

Microblog Monday: Fad Diets, Crash Diets!

Fad diets, crash diets, veggies…oh my! Mum told me she’s going to try the infamous “Military Diet Plan” (a.k.a. the “3 day diet”) this week. I went ahead & checked it out… [granny voice] …looks to me like one of them fancy “fad diets” all the kids are doin’ nowadays…! [cough] It’s basically a calorie-counting “intermittent fasting” diet, & it’s NOT meant to be done for extended amounts of time. According to the website, it’s for “emergency situation[s]. Let’s say you have to fit into a wedding dress pronto, take a cruise, or your ex is coming to town and you want to make him drool..” Blah-blah-blah…. Sorry. I hate being sold to, especially when they aren’t even selling anything! I read a lot of reviews from folks who’ve “tried” it…seems like it’s a decent way to lose a bit but definitely not sustainable (or healthy!) for long term.

Honestly, I may have us do it for a week or two in order to help Mr. Handsome practice better portion control (he tells me he HAS to eat the whole pizza in one go or he isn’t full..! :O xD My man…) and this seems like a way to kinda kick him in to gear…plus, he loves doing fasts. (Don’t ask me, I have no idea. -shrug-)

I’ve already started cooking more at home again, & portioning out our meals, AND everything is FAR healthier than our previous “fast food diet” lol!! Hopefully this helps with our portion control (so far all the reviews I’ve read have said that was a great benefit) & I’ve never been one to stick to counting calories (maths…) so this’ll be a neat couple of weeks. Plus, you can’t beat the cost! xD

What fad diets have you done? Anything that works? I’m of the opinion that simply eating better & exercising more does the trick, but hey, where’s the fun in that? xD

Cheers!!

Microblog Monday: 10 Year Reunion

Microblog Mondays

*******

Yesterday my BFF reminded me that our 10 year high school reunions would be arriving shortly; his this year & mine next. Oh, my…

I recall discussing this with him about 5 years ago. At the time, I was firmly in the “you gotta go!!” camp, while he was adamantly in the “hell no” camp. My, though, how the tables have turned…here it is, 5 years since that discussion & he’s rather excited to go, having a complete change of heart, telling me that I’ve got to go, or it will be an experience I may regret missing out on. I, on the other hand, feel apprehension at the mere thought of going.

The people I used to consider closest alienated me or I them by the end of high school. Aw, heck: I alienated myself. In retrospect I can see it was a defense mechanism. Either way…the people I’m friends with now consist of a smattering of people from various walks of my life, & some of them ARE from high school, but not many did I actually become good friends with until *after* high school. Perhaps I’m being a wuss, but I believe anyone I want to know I know now; anyone that I’ve gone “gee I wonder what they’re up to” I’ve reached out to on Facebook or such. Most responded, some chose not to; either way, it’s comfortable.

Granted, I know there’s definitely a few folks I’d love to catch up with, but is it worth the anxiety of going to a reunion?? Perhaps you think me a coward, & to that I say: …yes. Yes I am. Can I go home now? 🙁

I’m normally pretty confident in my assessment of myself, but this has got me all up in knots..! At least I still have a year to mull it over. My BFF seems to think I’ll want to go…he knows me pretty well, so he’s probably right. >_>

Did any of you readers have any apprehensions about your reunion? Did you choose to go or stay away? Why? Please tell me..! T___T

Cheers!!
