I know we’ve got Whovian Wednesdays, but it’s sci-fi week, & I simply couldn’t resist doing a craft that’s Doctor Who related!! 😀 Remember how I fashioned that rad little Starship Enterprise & Klingon Bird of Prey from those two floppy discs yesterday? Well, today I decided to use the media from one of the discs to fashion some wicked awesome TARDIS earrings. Here’s how I did it!
***Note: This is a tutorial on how to make the TARDIS portion of the earrings from the media from a floppy disc, not on how to make earrings themselves! 🙂
What you need:
- Scissors & Exacto knife
- Media innards from a 3 & 1/2″ floppy disc (if you followed along with yesterday’s tutorial, you’ve still got it! Otherwise, get an old floppy, or whatever material you’d prefer, & crack it open to remove the media.)
- Tracing paper
Here’s my sketch, & a black & white version that I did on an app (ignore the wibbly-wobbly bits…I used my finger, after all!) — choose either of these to print out & use as a template, just remember to shrink it to size. (Right click the chosen image, choose “save as”, then open the file & print it out!)
I took my little sketch & taped it to the media, then proceeded to use my scissors & exacto knife to cut away the pieces.
…Actually, that’s pretty much it.
Now, in order to save some time, I went ahead & folded the media over halfways & taped it down, so that I could cut through both sides at once to create double the TARDIS!! 😀
After you’ve cut them out, create your awesome dangley earrings & attach them to the bottom! I ended up trying out one of them with some tape to create a laminate effect… it looked, well, not-so-good, but if I’d used a clearer tape, or even laminate, it’d look far better. I’ll be sure to try this again sometime soon! Watch out floppy discs! Here I come! 😀
Sorry for the horrible shots… you’d be surprised how difficult it is to take a close up photo in such terrible lighting. xP
Hope you’re all having a lovely night!
